The maiden edition of the Biennial Media Forum on Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change and Science dubbed “BiM-NECS Forum is set to take place tomorrow, Monday 12 June 2023 at the Kofi Annan Indian Centre of Excellence in ICT, in Accra. The forum is on the theme “Strengthening Media Focus on Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change, and Science (NREC): Challenges, Prospect and way forward” and about 80 participants comprising media workers and other stakeholders will take part in the event. The overall goal of the BiM-NECS Forum is to contribute to the ongoing national and international debate about the importance of media and information for natural resources management, proper environmental protection, and climate change mitigation and adaptation as well as the contribution of science in the entire processes. The forum will help provide a unique platform that promotes media dialogue with technocrats, the private sector, and civil society towards promoting collaboration for strengthening the capacity of journalists within the NRECS sector. It will also establish a regular platform for reviewing media performance on natural resources, environment protection, climate change, and science coverage and reportage as well as addressing common issues that go beyond the responsibilities of any single media organisation. The forum will also create a space for media representatives and other stakeholders to publicly discuss and promote solutions for contemporary challenges confronting natural resources governance, environmental protection, climate change, and science interventions to facilitate sustainable development and explore opportunities to foster resilient journalism in natural resources, environmental protection, climate change, and science. According to the organisers of the event, Media Platform on Environment and Climate Change, the maiden forum is expected to close with the announcement of an award package to be called THE MPEC NRECS AWARDS in seven categories. The first set of awards would be presented at the Second “BiM-NECS Forum” event.
