Markets in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions have been disinfected as part of measures by the government to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the Phase two of the nationwide disinfection. The exercise brought economic activities in the regional capitals to a halt. As early as 4 a.m., various teams comprising workers of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, members of the security services and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) moved to the districts to begin the exercise. Lorry stations, bus terminals, market places, and public places of convenience were all disinfected during the day’s exercises. So far, Ahafo has recorded 166 Covid-19 confirmed cases with two deaths. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asunafo North, Yaw Osei Boahen commended traders, chiefs and other residents of the region for their high level of cooperation and involvement in the exercise. He called on them to continue to observe hygienic practices such as washing of hands with soap under running water and the use of hand sanitisers to protect them from contracting the disease. He told Newsmen that the disinfection exercises were necessary because some of these public places might have been contaminated with the virus due to the rapid spread of the Covid-19. He said the Assembly had distributed 20,000 nose masks to the general public and advised the people to wear the nose to protect themselves and the people around them. The Public Jobs Manager for Zoomlion in the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions, George Manu expressed satisfaction with the exercise and called on Ghanaians to support efforts by the government to prevent the spread of the disease. The disinfection exercise also took Zoomlion to disinfect market in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
