E/R: Galamsey pit caves in on two SHS students

The caved-in mining pit
Two male students of St. Stephen’s Senior High Technical School (STEPSS) and Begoro Presbyterian Senior High School have died in a galamsey pit at Akyem Asiakwa in the Eastern region.
The bodies of the victims were retrieved a few minutes on Friday, August 6, 2021, and have been deposited in Kibi government Hospital Morgue.
Ghenvironment.org has gathered that the two students; one in his final year at STEPSS went to engage in illegal mining on the mountainous part of the Atewa Forest reserve on Thursday, August 5, 2021, but did not return.
Alarmed was raised on Friday which a search party of Police and town folks walked a long distance to the scene where the two victims were retrieved dead.
Sources say a tree which the illegal miners have dug around toppled and caved the pit on the victims killing them instantly.
