The Eco-Conscious Citizens has revealed that, land belonging to Parks & Gardens, in Tamale in the Northern Region is under siege and that the trespassers have put blocks on the said land. According to the environmental group, the development undermines the government's Re-Set agenda. "Our green spaces are under siege. A petrol station was being built on Parks & Gardens land in Wa, in the Upper East Region. There were attempts in 2019 to appropriate Parks & Gardens land, Cantonment, Accra, to construct a multi-storey office building, and in 2024 to build estates", the group said in a statement.
It said, mitigating the effects of climate change demands that the country protect its green spaces, forests, wetlands, and water bodies. The group therefore urged duty bearers to protect green spaces and enforce laws and regulations. "We take this opportunity, to urge H.E. the President to revoke EI144 (Cessation of Forest Reserve) which declassifies part of Achimota Forest, the last remaining forest reserve in Accra, the lungs of Accra", the statement added.
