Residents of Fuveme, one of the coastal communities in the Anloga District of the Volta Region, have made a distress call for government to step up measures to saving their lives as well as homes from a destructive coastal erosion that has hit the entire community. These residents shared their plight with SandCity Radio, stating that the situation has rendered them homeless as the sea washed down their houses, shops and farms along the coast. Speaking to the District Chief Executive, Mr Seth Yormewu, he indicated that the condition of these residents has been noted with great concern and shall be dealt with immediately. The DCE added that reports on the coastal erosion and how it affected the residents have been forwarded to the Ministry of Works and Housing so rapid deliberations and measures could be enacted to avert the situation. Mr Yormewu said, government is committed to ensuring the safety of every citizen, and residents of Fuveme are not excluded. He therefore appealed to them to exercise patience as he works with other stakeholders to support the fight against coastal erosion. Mr. Philip Bokorgah, Director for National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the district, upon a visit to Fuveme together with other officials from the Assembly indicated that, they have assessed the magnitude of the destruction and have filed reports as well to the NADMO regional office, hoping to receive some relief items for residents affected.
