The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General William Agyapong, has promoted a young soldier, Private Teye-Tsu Asare Solomon, to the rank of Lance Corporal with immediate effect. The promotion was announced at an all-ranks durbar at the Burma Hall on Friday, 11th July, 2025. In addition to his promotion, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu has been nominated to serve with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) coupled with other rewards. The recognition comes after he rejected a substantial bribe from illegal miners at his duty post at the Bibiani Gold Mine in the Western Region. Private Teye-Tsu, 30, who serves with the Department of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces at Burma Camp in Accra, was on official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mine late last year when he encountered a group of artisanal miners. The group reportedly attempted to lure him with a significant financial inducement in exchange for access to restricted galamsey pits. Announcing the reward, Lieutenant General Agyapong urged personnel to always remember their oath to the state and act professionally. The CDS emphasised that just as misconduct deserves punishment, exemplary conduct like that demonstrated by L/Cpl Teye-Tsu deserves recognition and commendation.
It will be recalled that L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, 30, was on official guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines late last year when he encountered a group of artisanal miners who attempted to bribe him with a large sum of money in exchange for access to their illegal mining pits. Driven by his patriotic instinct to support national efforts to stem the tide of illegal mining and its damaging effects on the environment, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu not only rejected the bribe but also swiftly apprehended the illegal miners and handed them over to the authorities for prosecution. Impressed by his selfless and patriotic act, the management of Ojeyz Security Limited, the private company providing security at the site, honoured him as a shining star. A citation that accompanied the award, titled “Outstanding Staff Recognition,” and signed by the Chief Executive and Founder of the security firm, Capt. Haruna Adamu (Rtd), read in part: “In appreciation of your commendable performance and unwavering dedication to providing top-notch service, Ojeyz Security Management truly appreciates your professionalism and excellent service delivery.” L/Cpl Teye-Tsu, who enlisted in the Ghana Armed Forces in 2023, hails from Odumase-Krobo in the Eastern Region. He is an alumnus of Manya Krobo Senior High School and King David College, both located in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. He is also a member of the Krobo-based youth network, Kloma Gbi (Voice of the Krobo States).
